Founding of Bretigny
Bretigny is not a municipality: it is a hamlet of the municipality of Saint-Barthélemy, in the Gros-de-Vaud district, on the south (or east) bank of the Talent, facing the village of Saint-Barthélemy and its castle. No founding act is known and the sources consulted do not say who created it. The archives cited by the municipality record two village groups from the 11th century, Bretigny east of the Talent and Saint-Barthélemy to the west (to be cross-checked). The village was long divided into two parts: one near the castle, with a Reformed majority, and Bretigny, Catholic. In the Vaud dialect, the inhabitants of Bretigny bear the nickname « Suce-Miel ».
