Founding of Bussy-sur-Moudon

No founder or founding charter is known. The area was already frequented in Roman times: it lies on the Roman road that linked Moudon to Yverdon, where a bronze statuette was found in 1848. The village appears in written records in the 12th century and, in the mid-14th century, belonged to the castellany of Moudon. A local tradition has it founded in 1498 by inhabitants of a hamlet of the same name near Valangin, but this legend is contradicted by the mention of the name from the 12th century and by older traces of settlement (see Legends).

The fugitives from Valangin. According to tradition, in 1498 inhabitants of a hamlet called Bussy, near Valangin, fled from their lord. Reaching a league (about 4 km) from Moudon, they found the place pleasant and built a village there, giving it the name of their former hamlet. This legend is contradicted by the mention of «Buxi» from the 12th century and by older traces of settlement (to be cross-checked).
