Origin of the name Féchy

First written mention in 1188 as «Fescheio». The origin of the name is not explained by the sources consulted. The inhabitants are called the Fezzolans.

Founding of Féchy

The area has been inhabited since Gallo-Roman times: remains of settlements have been found at Le Tombey, Bayel and La Gordanne, and the ancient road known as the Vy d'Etraz crossed it. An early medieval cemetery was discovered at Le Tombey. No source consulted says who founded the village or when. In the Middle Ages Féchy was a parish of the diocese of Geneva, whose church of Saint-Sulpice, mentioned from 1188, belonged to the abbey of the Great St Bernard, and the village was part of the lordship of Aubonne. Today the municipality comprises two cores on either side of the Nyon-Aubonne road: Féchy-Dessous, with the hamlets of La Crausaz and Le Saugey, and Féchy-Dessus, a compact settlement among the vineyards.
