Founding of Flendruz
Flendruz is not a municipality: it is one of the two main localities, with Rougemont, of the municipality of Rougemont, in the district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut; the municipality also includes several hamlets, among them Le Vanel and Les Ciernes-Picat. No founding act of Flendruz is known. For the municipality as a whole, settlement, scattered on the valley floor and slopes of the Sarine valley, took shape from about 1080 around the priory of Rougemont. In the 12th and 13th centuries Flendruz was held by the lord of Montsalvens, while Rougemont came under the lord of the Vanel. Flendruz, like the village of Rougemont, is listed in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites (ISOS).
