Origin of the name La Forclaz

The origin of the name La Forclaz is not explained in the sources consulted, which also give no dated first mention.

Founding of La Forclaz

La Forclaz is not a municipality: it is a village of the municipality of Ormont-Dessous, in the district of Aigle, on the left bank of the Grande-Eau at the foot of the Chamossaire foothills. The sources consulted name neither a founder nor a date of creation, but count it among the oldest permanent settlements of the municipality, together with Le Sépey and Cergnat. Under the Ancien Régime, the municipality was divided into four administrative units called seytes, including that of La Forclaz. The village has kept its character and a built heritage shaped by the self-sufficient economy of the past.
