Origin of the name Mur (VD)
The name "Mur" is attested from an early period, with sources disagreeing on the date of its first mention: 1319 according to some sources, 1396 according to others (to be cross-checked). The origin of the place name would refer to a wall or an old fortification, without established archaeological certainty.
Founding of Mur (VD)
The village emerged in the context of the medieval seigneury of Vully, divided from an early period between the seigneuries of Cudrefin and Lugnorre, which explains the village's present situation, split by the cantonal border between Vaud and Fribourg.

Historic sites in Mur (VD)
Guévaux Castle. Built between 1742 and 1747 by the bailiff Nicolas Kirchberger, this castle stands on the territory of Mur (VD), even though the hamlet of Guévaux is crossed by the cantonal border with Fribourg.
Remains in Mur (VD)
Bronze Age lakeside site "Mur-Chenevières de Guévaux I". This pile-dwelling site, listed as part of the prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps on the UNESCO World Heritage list, attests to human occupation of the shore of Lake Morat as early as the Bronze Age.
