Origin of the name Prévonloup
First written mentions: «Provalour» in 1336, «Provonlou» in 1340, «Prévondloup» in 1440. The etymology of the name is not explained in the sources consulted.
Founding of Prévonloup
The village probably took shape in the 12th or 13th century; the sources consulted name neither a founder nor precise circumstances. In the Middle Ages, Prévonloup belonged to the Bishop of Lausanne and came under the castellany of Lucens.

Middle Ages. The village belongs to the Bishop of Lausanne and comes under the castellany of Lucens.
1536. Start of Bernese rule, which lasts until 1798.
1586. The commune is part of the bailiwick of Moudon.
1798. Prévonloup is attached to the district of Moudon, until 2006.
1832. Construction of the schoolhouse.
1962-1984. Land consolidation of the farmland.
1984. Renovation of the schoolhouse, with the creation of a community hall.
2000. More than half of the working residents are employed outside the commune, drawn to Romont and its region.
2008. The district of Broye-Vully, created by the new Vaud territorial division, begins operating on 1 January.
early 21st century. The village, formerly in the parish of Dompierre, joins the parish of Granges et environs.
