Origin of the name Sullens
The village is mentioned in 1180 in the form «Sollens». The etymology of the name is not explained in the sources consulted.
Founding of Sullens
The sources consulted say neither when nor by whom the village was founded. An undated tumulus in the Bois du Devin bears witness to early occupation of the area. The village appears in the records in 1180; in the Middle Ages it depended largely on the lords of Cossonay, while the abbeys of Saint-Maurice, Hautcrêt, Romainmôtier and Montheron held land and rights there.
History of Sullens

Middle Ages. Sullens depends largely on the lords of Cossonay; the abbeys of Saint-Maurice, Hautcrêt, Romainmôtier and Montheron hold land and rights there.
1228. Sullens is recorded as a parish.
1453. The village has 50 hearths (households).
1539-1798. Sullens belongs to the Bernese bailiwick of Morges and is run by a Council of twelve members; with the Reformation, the church becomes a chapel of ease of the parish of Cheseaux.
1665. Bern grants Sullens as a fief to the Charrière, then to the Correvon (1692), the Thormann (early 18th century), the Mayor (1722) and the d'Albenas.
1712-1713. The church of Saint-Pierre is rebuilt; it houses a granary.
1798. Sullens is attached to the district of Cossonay (circle of Sullens), until 2006.
around 1809. Construction of the castle outbuilding, used as a cheese dairy.
1837. The church is attached to the parish of Penthaz, then, in 1852, to that of Vufflens-la-Ville.
1973. Land consolidation.
1980. Sullens becomes part of the Lausanne agglomeration; the nearby A1 and A9 motorways encourage its residential growth.
2000. 79% of the working population commute.
2005. Agriculture still provides 25% of jobs.
2008. Sullens joins the district of Gros-de-Vaud, created by the new territorial division of Vaud.
2025. The municipality has 1'282 inhabitants on 31 December.

Historic sites in Sullens
Church (temple) of Saint-Pierre. Rebuilt in 1712-1713, it housed a granary. A parish from 1228, it became a chapel of ease of Cheseaux at the Reformation, then was attached to Penthaz in 1837 and to Vufflens-la-Ville in 1852.
