Origin of the name Villaret
The hamlet, also called Le Villaret, appears in 1164 in the form « Villars-Frelon ». The origin of the name is not explained in the sources consulted.
Founding of Villaret
Le Villaret is a hamlet in the municipality of Belmont-sur-Yverdon, in the Jura-Nord vaudois district. No source consulted names a founder or explains how it came into being; it is recorded from 1164. In the Middle Ages it formed a small separate community, which had 6 hearths in 1404. This community had disappeared by 1550 and the place was attached to Belmont. In 1477 Yolande of Savoy made Le Villaret a noble fief for Claude d'Arnex, her castellan of Belmont; Bern converted it into a rural fief in 1752.
