Les Bolles-du-Temple
Origin of the name Les Bolles-du-Temple
Name origin: like the other hamlets of La Côte-aux-Fées, Les Bolles bears the name of a family that once lived there, the Bolle. The complement « du Temple » distinguishes it from Les Bolles-du-Vent, which follow it towards Sainte-Croix, and refers to the temple standing there (to be cross-checked).
Founding of Les Bolles-du-Temple
Les Bolles-du-Temple is one of about a dozen hamlets that make up La Côte-aux-Fées, a municipality in the Neuchâtel Jura near the Vaud border. No founding act is known: like the other hamlets of the municipality, it owes its name to a family, the Bolle, who once lived there. The hamlet, at about 1035 m above sea level, became the main one of the municipality and forms its administrative and economic centre: it is home to the temple, the municipal administration and the Piaget watch manufacture.
