Origin of the name Meudon

Name origin: not explained by the sources consulted. Meudon is one of the quarters of the street village of Les Verrières, together with Le Crêt, Belle-Perche, Grand-Bourgeau and Croix-Blanche. Its church is recorded as Saint-Nicolas de « Mijoux », an old form of the name of Les Verrières (1311 « Myezour », 1337 « Mey Joulz », then « Mijoux »).

Founding of Meudon

Meudon forms the end of the street village of Les Verrières, which stretches for 3 km near the French border, in the municipality of Les Verrières. No founder is known. The quarter grew up around the parish church, first documented in 1324; a parish was probably established there as early as around 1300. A hamlet with a church, the size of a small village and laid out in a semicircle, Meudon was one of the bourgeaux (quarters with their own organisation) of Les Verrières until they were united into a single municipality at the end of the 19th century.
