Origin of the name Lully

The name is attested in 1018 in the form «Lulliacum». It is said to come from the Roman name Lullius and the suffix «-acum», designating the estate of a Lullius family (to be cross-checked). In Vaud patois, the village is called «Louyî».

Founding of Lully

No founder is known; the name suggests an old rural estate from Roman times (to be cross-checked). In 1018 King Rudolph III of Burgundy gave Lully to the abbey of Saint-Maurice, which in the 12th century set up a grange there to manage its revenues in the region. The municipality comprises the village of Lully and the hamlet of Sécheron.

1960s. Start of rapid residential development, after a long agricultural and wine-growing economy.
